To do your own locomotive maintenance and repairs you will require some basic tools and possibly a few spare parts. Here are some tools to have handy:

Small Screwdrivers – Most parts are small so you'll likely need one or two small screwdrivers for removing and tightening little straight-blade screws. You might also need a small screwdriver for undoing cross-point screws.

A Pair Of Tweezers – You'll probably find some pointed end tweezers a helpful tool for picking up and relocating little things.

A Magnifier – Depending on how good your eyesight is; you might need a magnifier to see the small parts. A bench-fitted or free-standing, magnifier might be easiest to use so that your hands can be kept free to work on your loco.

Oil Lubricant- Be careful what you use, because you won't need much, and you won't want to damage anything. The oil needs to be a plastic-compatible specialist "light" model train oil. There are various brands available.
